Motocross/Supercross

So, if you have been in any part of my life for about the past 2 years you know motocross is by far my favorite sport.(Football a close 2nd) The thing about motocross is I love every apectof it: bikes, riders, mechanics, amatuer riders, and even the fans. You will probably not find a tighter fan base for a sport than motocross. Your probably asking why is he writing about motocross 1. because it has become a passion in life and 2. because there is definitely a spiritual side to it.
-Spiritual side-
Motocross has a bad reputation, a lot of people think it just a bunch of beer drinking, foul mouth kids, that ride dirt bikes. I will say a lot of that goes on. But there is also a very spiritual side to the sport, mainly because it is crazy dangerous. Right off the top of my head I can think of at least 5 riders in the past year that have lost their life in a dirt bike accident. So, very dangerous. But this leads to many riders putting their faith into something bigger than theirselves. God. Which I say is the best side of the sport. Many top riders are vocal about their faith. Trey Canard, Ashley Fiolek, Andrew Short, Ryan Sipes, Ben Evans, I respect these riders b/c in a sport that glamourize a lot of worldly things they really stand up for their faith. If you are looking for a good role model I would suggest Trey Canard very down to earth and in love with Jesus while also riding a dirt bike very fast.
But just as there are many who stand on there faith there are also alot of kids who fall into the worldly side of motocross. Like I said motocross is a passion but I am also very passionate about Jesus. I hope to one day mesh these two passions and have some sort of motocross/offroad ministry.(Please be in prayer for this.)To reach out to those who may not know Christ because if you are riding a dirt bike you really never know how long your life will be.(The sad part of the sport for sure).
If you are not a motocross fan hopefully you will be interested enough to check it out know. Definitely some good role models in this sport and also its pretty cool to watch. I leave you with a verse and its a obvious pick for sure.
1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us RUN with perseverance the RACE marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. Hebrews 12:1-3

To all those that have lost their life while doing what they loved God Speed!

Blog coming soon about.....

Workouts

Well, I have finally bit the bullet and joined a gym in Pell City. Working out is a love/hate relationship for me, it the craziest thing. I hate actually taking the time out of my day to go to the gym. But as soon as I get there I really like being there and working out. I probably like the gym so much though b/c i am a people watcher. I don't stare I just observe and people at the gym can be really amusing and they probably think the same about me, but hey its cool.

-Funny story! I went to the gym last night at 8pm. As I walked in a couple walked in right before me. They were rather large so I thought its good they are coming to the gym and trying to get back in shape. Because a lot of people are insecure to go to a gym if the are no in some kind of shape. So I thought hey more power to them. I warmed up for 5 min. on the bike then did 2 sets of chest exercise and next thing I know they are gone. Literally they were there for 10 minutes. So my applause for them was soon silenced. I think the Biggest Loser show has give people hope that they can lose the weight also. I just don't think some people understand that the Biggest Loser contestants do multiple workouts a day for hours a day. But hey our physical health is almost just as important as our spiritual help. So definitely a shout out to all those working to stay healthy and in shape!

Food!!

The other day I said to myself, "I am going to fast for 48 hours." Fast simply meaning abstaining from food. I have never fasted in my life before, they had 24 hour fast during my high school days at my church and I always played sports so probably not a good idea to abstain from food while playing a sport. But I decided to fast mainly b/c Jesus did (I know 48 hours is nothing like 40 days) and b/c I knew I would have to rely on God and the Spirit he bestows on me to get through. I love food I eat my three squares, plus some most of the time so the idea of fasting was a challenge.
As I am writing I am on hour 42 of 48 and boy, how it has been a ride. About hour 24 was the worst my stomach was groaning and the only thing that got me through it was the power of the Holy Spirit. I prayed, God provided. My goal in this was to become closer to God. To accomplish this, I knew God was the only thing I could rely on b/c if I trusted my flesh I would have ate at like hour 8 but I have made it this far, by trusting in God's provision.
My other goal in this fast was to get a new perspective of food. I personally eat for mere satisfaction it makes me feel good and it taste great! But food was meant to energize us not to be used for mere satisfaction. I got a huge surprise at about hour 36 of the fast. My two goals were happening I had to draw closer to God to make it through the days, but also I was gaining a new perspective on food. However, God threw a curve ball. I was riding down the road and noticed food is so accessible to the people that live in the US, restaurants with big signs are everywhere. If I ever got to the point to where I wanted to eat I easily could have. But there are so many people in this nation as well as other nations around the world that are dying b/c of lack of nutrition (food). You think with all the food we throw out everyday we could some how find enough to feed the people who are truly starving.
I heard a story one time of a man who went on a mission trip and the locals were sacrificing chickens to idols. And this disgusted the man and he talked to a local missionary and said "I could never be around this place all day, everyday with these people openly making sacrifices to idols." The local missionary turned to him and said, "what do you mean?", "These people have one idol, where in American there are many." This puzzled the foreigner. The local missionary went on, "he said in America, even your own stomach is an idol, look at the places you have to satisfy it, huge lit up signs screaming at you to over indulge here or there." The local missionary went on with many other examples but this one really hit me.
Our own stomach is an idol!! We fill it so easily and hardly ever give thanks for the true blessing God has given us. I personally know no one who is starving and I am thankful but also upset that I am not helping to feed the starving. Mark 6:37 Jesus says to his disciples, "You give them something to eat." We who ar blessed must give!
I never thought a 48 hour fast would open my eyes as much as it has. From now on everything I eat I will be so thankful for and secondly I will do my best to look to food for the energy and life it provides and nothing more. We Americans our blessed beyond belief but what do we do with our blessings? Just something to think about.
